St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus and protector of the Holy Family,
you knew what it was to be a stranger and to be looked down upon.
You fled with your family into Egypt to keep your child safe.
I come to you now as a mother asking you to protect my son, Andre.
Stand beside him at JFK High School each day.
Where he meets prejudice, cover him with your strength.
Where he is judged unfairly, let the truth of who he is be seen.
Guard his heart so that hurt does not become bitterness,
and guard his mind so that no one's words make him doubt his worth.
He is made in the image of God, beloved and whole.
I lift up his teachers, Mr. Urban and Mr. Mastromarino.
Open their eyes to any injustice in their words and actions.
Soften what is hard in them, and move them to fairness and respect.
Where they will not change, let justice be done
and let Andre be shielded from harm.
Give me, his mother, wisdom to know when to speak and how to act,
courage to advocate for him, and peace while I wait for answers.
Surround Andre with true friends and adults who see his gifts.
St. Joseph, faithful protector, carry this prayer to Jesus.
Through your intercession may Andre walk in dignity, safety and hope.
